Sewer System Management Plan (SSMP)

Sewer System Management Plan (SSMP) is a document that outlines the activities a wastewater or collection agency undertakes to effectively manage its wastewater collection systems. Causey Consulting, based in Walnut Creek, CA, assisted the Truckee Sanitary District (TSD) in preparing this SSMP.

TSD operates a sanitary sewer system that serves a full-time population of approximately 17,000 people and spans roughly 39 square miles across Placer and Nevada Counties. As of January 2020, the system serves about 13,400 residential and 2,000 commercial connections. The sewer infrastructure includes 215 miles of gravity sewer pipelines, 3,927 manholes, 15.5 miles of force mains, 44 lift stations (comprising 20 large and 24 small stations), and 17 sewer flow metering sites. The sewer pipelines range in size from 4 inches to 24 inches in diameter. The District is responsible for 74 miles of lower laterals, while property owners are responsible for the upper lateral, which is the portion located on their parcels. Additionally, the District system includes three sewer siphons.

TSD also receives sewage from a satellite system operated and maintained by the Northstar Community Services District (NCSD). All wastewater is conveyed to the Tahoe-Truckee Sanitation Agency (T-TSA) for treatment and disposal.
